Baklava

  • 4 1/2 cups walnuts – (1 – 16 oz pkg) finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Mix together the above

  • Use 1 lb phyllo leaves
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, melted

Open phyllo leaves and lay them on a damp towel.

Butter the top sheet with a brush. Pile a mixture of the nuts, etc. along one end of the phyllo – then roll up 3 leaves without the mixture inside.

Place on a baking sheet – repeat buttering & nut mixture until you have used it all up. You can also brush a little butter on top. Slice a little through the phyllo with diagonal slices before baking.

Bake at 300° for 1 hour – as soon as you take it out of the oven, pour 1 cup hot (not boiling) honey on it.
